Have you checked the batteries in your smoke detectors recently? It is a good idea to check them twice a year. An easy way to remember is when the time changes from daylight savings and back again - Spring Forward and Fall Back!  Make sure your family is safe - check those batteries!

The call volume has drastically increased over the last few years.  This illustrates the growing dependence the Johnstown community has on its volunteer firefighters, many who are state certified in EMS, Firefighting and Hazardous Materials Handling.

In 2007 the department responded to 599 calls totaling over 4,406 manpower hours. 1,587 hours on EMS calls, 1,639 hours on Fire calls and 1,180 hours department training.  These totals do not include the time spent collecting money for MDA, Drive Smart Presentaion at RHS, BBQ Days, Fire Prevention Open House, Fire Prevention Programs at Elementary Schools and Preschools, Station Tours, Outside training for EMT-B state Certification, FF1 and FF11 certification, hose testing, committee meetings, truck checks, and restocking trucks after calls or writing reports.
